Volunteering at the Rally
Just one of the hundreds of RVers who volunteer in various
ways to put the rally on. Some do the coffee and donuts (a.k.a. breakfast);
parking (parking the over 2,600 RVs (obviously not all at once)); security;
driving activity carts; monitoring seminars; ice cream social (hint - want to
be popular? Serve ice cream); working the FMCA booth. A great way to give back.
One of the many benefits of attending rallys is learning -
by attending seminars or talking with fellow RVers. For example, in one of the
seminars this afternoon, the presenter was sharing some wisdom that was passed
on to him and his wife when they first started full-timing in an RV. As they
were picking up their then new Class A motorhome (the kind that look like buses
going down the road), the guy offered them some advice.
He said, life in an RV is different than in your
sticks-and-bricks home. You are going from 3,000 sq ft to about 300 sq ft. That
space can seem small, especially after you have been on the road for a while.
He told them it is important that every day, at least once,
you tell each other “I love you”. He then continued, there is something else
equally as important. Things will happen, just as they do at home. So it is
also important to also tell each other “I’m sorry”.
As I was thinking about this and thinking about the over 125
nights we have been camping in our RV since we got it last February, I thought
about the few times when the RV seemed small. Mostly days where the weather
kept us cooped up inside and we could not go play golf, go bike riding, go on a
hike, or do outside sightseeing comfortably. And I thought the advice was
appropriate.
Then the presenter continued. He shared that every morning,
his wife gets up and starts the day off by saying “I’m sorry I love you”.😀😀😀
