Gravity Hill, PA
Something about looking out the window in the morning, drinking coffee, and watching for wildlife. 65 degrees, going to the mid-70s, sunny, and a bit of breeze.
Enjoyed Somerset Country Club in Somerset, PA. Beautiful day, good golf. Darrell’s turn to buy. 4 over par after 9 holes, and he held off a back 9 charge by Kris.
Since we were in the Laurel Highlands, and finished golf earlier than expected, we decided to add a experience from our RV Trip List, a visit to Gravity Hill, near Paris, PA. Many tourist brochure racks have a glossy tri-fold on Gravity Hill (visit their website at http://www.gravityhill.com/index.html for the same info). The brochure made it sound rather exotic, so we drove the 45 minutes out into beautiful PA countryside. A few steep hills - one was a 10% grade. Google had us turn off the main road about 6 miles away - onto a bluer road. Bluer roads are blue highways without centerlines. About 2 miles away, the road got even more blue. Still paved, but narrower than before. Arrived Gravity Hill. Not as much to see as the brochure seemed to suggest. Sprinty did roll when placed in neutral - our level indicated a slope, while our eyes suggested the road was level.
Bottom line - if you are in the area, and looking to fill a few hours of a day, and don’t have high expectations, maybe consider it. The Flight 93 Memorial we passed along the way is a much better investment of those few hours.
After Gravity Hill, decided to get settled at a campground. Selected Shawnee State Park as it was not far - although it leaves us an hour drive in the morning to our planned golf at Hidden Valley Resort. Checking ReserveAmerica, we knew they had over 160 campsites available (out of 293) for the night. When we stopped in at the Park Office, the staff initially offered to print out the list of sites available for the night, then told us to just go pick one. Found a nice spot in the shade.
