Roan Mountain State Park
A rather unremarkable day. We were up well before the sun and by sunrise, had finished breakfast. It was just starting to rain, so we headed out.
Based on the forecast of rain all day, we decided to make it a driving day (6+ hours) in the hopes that we might be on the other side of the weather system for Saturday. Preferring not to drive I-40, we chose to go north a bit driving US highways instead. So we made reservations at Roan Mountain State Park in Roan Mountain, TN. Being a weekend, most of the sites were already booked, but we were able to select a nice site that was sloped to our liking.
We arrived about 2:30pm, and got set up. No cell service, but Roan Mountain SP has WiFi. Pretty decent WiFi as state parks go. And the closest WiFi point was about 100 feet away. Fast enough to stream YouTube videos with minimal buffering.
Darrell’s brother lives nearby in Banner Elk, and he came to visit with his fur baby Biscuit till dinner time. After dinner, we got partly caught up on the videos posted by various RVers on YouTube, thanks to having WiFi.
We enjoyed (endured?) the pitter-patter of rain on Sprinty’s roof most of the night. A reminder that when you park under trees, the water droplets falling off leaves are bigger than raindrops, so they make more noise than if it was just rain hitting the roof. Enjoyed a nice shower in the bathhouse, which was nicely heated and quite clean.
Full disclosure, this was not the sign at the exit to Raleigh Oaks RV Resort, rather a picture I found on the web yesterday. We got a good chuckle on the last sentence.
