Ava Gardner Museum

We woke up to a chilly (for us) morning.  The reality of Fall is setting in.  At 41 degrees, we count our blessings as we don’t have to winterize Sprinty - yet.

Based on the Rally agenda, we elected to take advantage of warmer weather today to play golf nearby.  We chose the Country Club of Johnston County, located all of 5 minutes away.  We called before heading out to make sure we could get on - we could.

Moving slowly to allow the temperatures to creep up a bit, we were initially surprised at how small the parking lot was at the golf course.  A positive sign, we hoped.

We got surprise number 2 when we checked in:  $57 for two golfers with a cart and range balls.

After getting Sprinty settled, we hit balls on the range, then headed for the first hole.  Kris  parred the first hole, sending a clear signal Darrell was in for a run for it today.  Darrell answered back by parting the second hole, so Kris answered back by making back-to-back birdies on holes 3 & 4.  At the turn, Kris was up four strokes.  Darrell played the back 9 holes well, except for hole 13 when his ball decided to play hide-n-seek in mid-flight.  Despite making 5 pars on the back, Kris finished one stoke ahead on the day.  We also experienced surprise number 3:  the course was in good shape.

Next up was the short drive to Smithfield for Kris to pay up.  After enjoying our Frappacino treat, we went into downtown Smithfield to the Ava Gardner Museum.  Ava Gardner was born about five miles from Smithfield, and through the efforts of some collectors, the museum exists today.  After watching an 18-minute film about her life, introduced by the docent, we toured the exhibits.  A very nice tribute to her.

Then back to the campground.  After showers in awesome individual shower rooms, we toured the new Roadtreks on display by D&H RV Center of Apex, NC.  They also catered the dinner for the group tonight.

After dinner, the group played card bingo.  Fun game of luck.  Both Kris and Darrell each won a game.
