Rocky Creek Campground

A mixed emotion morning as we said our goodbyes to family and continued our journey.  Sad to say goodbye, excited for continuing the adventure.  We headed mostly west towards Hempstead, TX to play golf after several days off at Legendary Oaks Golf Course.  Located out in the middle of cattle country, we had lowered our expectation due to location and price.

Just as well, our game was rusty and we appreciated that it was not too nice a course.  While we can blame a couple of missed putts on the greens, we seemed to struggle to make the shots we expected of ourselves.  Darrell managed to hit most of the fairways on the first nine, and several one-putts to lead at the turn.  On the back, he was only able to hit one fairway, and had too many putts.  Kris played better on the back nine than the front nine, including some really good drives.  When we were done, Darrell barely held on to honors on the day.

While the temperature was in the 60s, it was partly cloudy and very breezy making it feel cool.  Later this week, we will be wishing for weather like today.

After golf, we continued west to Rocky Creek Campground near Burton, TX.  As a Corps of Engineers lake, located on Somerville Lake, it had the added advantage of being able to use our National Parks Senior Pass.  We got a lakefront campsite with electric for $13.  And only about a dozen campers in the campground tonight.
