Royal St Augustine Golf Course
Thursday, 15 November
As we planned today last night, the weather forecast was better for golf. We selected the Royal St Augustine Golf Course which was pretty close to the RV Resort. It had on-line tee times through Golf 18, so we picked a mid-morning tee time and booked it.
We woke up to a cool morning, with temperatures in the 50s, and a forecast high of the low 60s. After a leisurely start, we made our way to the golf course. We were pleased to see the parking lot was not full. The greens fees were quite reasonable for a course in Florida. After warming up of the range, we headed out to ply. We found the course was quite nice, and had a number of challenging holes - narrow fairways, water hazards. It made you evaluate for the best shot, rather than just the longest shot.
Darrell opens up with a par on the first hole and had high hopes on the day. Kris quickly dashed his hopes, and was head by 5 strokes to the turn. The back nine holes seemed more challenging, and while Darrell pulled off a couple of amazing golf shots, he just could not string together consecutive good shots until the final hole when both he and Kris parred the very, very narrow par 5. We tied on the back nine, so Kris had honors on the day by 5 strokes.
While we were playing golf, Sprinty got to hang out in the parking lot with a distant cousin.
After stopping at a Starbucks on the way back to camp for Kris to pay up, we spent about an hour working on cleaning the black and gray tanks, taking advantage of the full hookup site and temperatures in the 60s to do a thorough cleaning. Darrell then spent over an hour with another couple attending the rally who bought a used Roadtrek just like Sprinty, but were not given a very good orientation to the various systems. Darrell had a bit of flashback as he was once that inexperienced with Sprinty. Mike and Carol were thankful for the time Darrell spent with them, and apologized to Kris for the time it took.
We enjoyed a nice social with the Roadtrek group and a catered meal. As there were not a planned activity in the morning, everyone said their goodbyes after dinner. I think the expected cooler temperatures may have dampened enthusiasm for wandering the campground saying good byes in the morning.
