A Day in Deming, NM

9 December

A peaceful night at the golf course.  Some road noise, but not too bad.  And as most of the RV parks in Deming are on the main road, which parallels I-10, road noise might have been worse had we stayed in a regular RV park.  As we looked out the window with the sun coming up, the practice putting green had frost on it.  Good thing we had some inside chores to do before playing golf.

After it warmed up a bit, we headed for the driving range to get loose.  It was windy, making it rather chilly.  We decided to walk - we would stay warmer and get some exercise.  The course had better grass on the fairways than the last two courses we played in Texas.  And as long as you stayed in the fairway, you were hitting off grass.  If you deviated, then you got to hit off hard packed gravel what was like asphalt without the tar binder.  We both played well - Darrell’s score reflected his scrambling well.  Kris’ played better too, but her score did not reflect it as well.

As the round went on, it got warmer, and the breeze became less, so we were down to shirtsleeves at the end.  Fortunately, there was a Starbucks about 15 miles west of Deming, so Darrell happily drove there and back to pay up.

As we reviewed the latest weather forecast, we decided it best to stay another night in Deming as Deming had the fewest hours of freezing and below-freezing temperatures.  We are starting to consider that we may have to winterize to have more control in our trip planning.

We selected an independent RV park, LoW-Hi RV Ranch, a few miles south of Deming based on the reviews on AllStays.  On the way, Sprinty got a much needed bath at a self-serve car wash.

The RV park was about 75% full, making us glad we did not need full hookups (which were almost all taken), and they also had dry camping as an option.  That and Passport America made this our Option A for the night.  We learned “LoW” is the acronym for “Loners on Wheels”, and noticed most of the RVers staying here are single.  Interesting.  Two other Roadtrek are camped on the water-electric row of sites.
