Quartzsite Part 1

Wednesday, 2 January

Woke up at 2:30 am and found the outside temperature was below freezing and dropping.  So much for relying on weather forecasts.  Knowing I would not be able to get back to sleep worrying about our water lines freezing, I got up to winterize the water lines, which we had just dewinterized expecting above freezing temperatures.  Just imagine the sight of trying to quietly winterize a motorhome in the dark at 2:30 am when it is 28 degrees outside.  Skipping the long story, let’s just say I recommend doing the winterization procedure in daylight when it is about 20 degrees warmer.

It was another cool (high temperature in low 50s, breezy (winds 20mph from the north) day, best suited for hunkering down and staying warm.  We finally ventured out about 11:30, walked down to Main Street to a cafe for lunch, then wandered through some of the vendors set up in Tyson Wells area.  Later this week is the start of the rock and gem show in Quartzsite, so most of the vendors were selling rocks and such.  Some of the other vendors were more swap meet type of vendors.  Overall, we got a 4.7 mile walk in for the day.

After dinner, we went to watch the movie “Bucket List” over in the clubhouse.  A comedic drama, it had some pretty heavy drama, as well as some bust-your-gut laughing moments.

Thursday, 3 January

Another night of 27 degrees.  So glad I was not up in the middle of the night worrying about water lines freezing.  Still a chilly morning, which was spent huddled inside warm Sprinty.  Once the temperature got up to 50 degrees, we took Sprinty for a run to Parker, AZ, and opportunity for Sprinty to get some exercise.  Kris and Darrell bought some gray clothes for the parade at the rally next week.

Friday, 4 January

Another night of 27 degrees, although we overheard someone saying to got down to 25 degrees.  Grateful we did not get anxious and dewinterize yesterday.  Another chilly morning hunkered down inside Sprinty.  Once it warmed up to 50 degrees, about lunchtime, we broke out the bikes for the first time this trip to do some more exploring of the town.

As towns go, there just is not much here other than lots and lots of RV camping, both paid and free.  Every store seemed to be very busy.  At the Dollar General, the checkout line went almost to the back of the store.  We stopped by the Hi Jolly Monument (https://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/11284

said to be the most visited attraction in southwest Arizona.  When we visited, we were the only ones there.  Maybe because the Rock and Gem Show started today?

Saturday, 5 January

Only got to 35 degree last night.  Today was forecast to be cloudy and not quite as warm.  Walked to the Quartzsite Community Center to take in the Craft Fair going on.  A lot of pretty nice stuff.  Also wandered over to one of the vendors near the Big Tent to measure a hardwood cutting board that might be a sink top replacement for Sprinty.  After we got back, we worked on chores, including laundry and dewinterizing to get Sprinty ready for his next adventure.  Dewinterization went well, and we found no surprises like broken water lines.  We both let out an audible sigh of relief.  It started to rain lightly about 4pm, so we were happy to have completed our outside chores and settled inside Sprinty for the evening.
