Fantasy RV Caravan - Day 22
Friday, 23 August - Day 22
Today was a travel day from North Sydney, NS to Elm River, NS, where we stayed about two weeks ago when we first entered Nova Scotia. No doubt selected to break up the travel as we travel to Prince Edward Island tomorrow (136 miles).
The first caravan scheduled event for today was to carpool from the campground at 6pm to go to the Tidal Bore Viewing area to watch the tidal bore arrive at 6:33pm. Darrell had considered doing one of the tidal bore river rafting trips, but after further research, decided not to do it this trip.
With almost an entire day to travel around 200 miles, we saw an opportunity to play golf. We located a golf course enroute and made a tee time for 12pm at the Glen Lovat Golf Club in New Glasgow, NS. Selected based on location (along the route), reasonably priced, and available tee times.
We left Arm of Golf Campground before 8am for the 2.5 hour drive to New Glasgow. We built in some time in case we encountered road construction delays, wanted to make stops, and to hit on the range before playing. Encountering no construction, we arrived in plenty of time.
When we arrived, they confirmed we could go off early. After hitting a bucket of balls and practice putting, we headed out about 11am. Kris hit her first tee shot 167 yards in the center of the fairway. Darrell decided to go over the trees to cut the dogleg, and pulled off the shot. Darrell one-putted for birdie, while Kris made par. We both made par on the par 3 second hole, and Darrell made birdie on the third hole. That set the tone for the first nine holes, with Darrell being one over par at the turn, and leading.
The back nine was a lot tighter and required good hits to score. Darrell had a couple of bad holes, while Kris played the back nine better. Darrell managed to finish ahead by 2 strokes. Both of us were pretty pleased with our golf (except for a couple of shots) as the course had a 134 slope rating for ladies, and a 130 slope rating from the men’s senior tees.
After golf, we continued south to Elm River Campground in Elm River, NS, arriving just after 4pm. We decided not to watch the tidal bore, and used the time to do a load of laundry, get showers, dump tanks, vacuum out Sprinty, and fill fresh water.
After dinner, at 7pm, our organizers had the Trip Meeting (our last one of the caravan) and put on a Maritime desert social.
Our Wagonmaster went over the route for tomorrow, and the schedule for the next few days. Although the weather was nice and a propane fire pit had been lit, the group dissolved fairly quickly due to the pesky mosquitoes. Several said the mosquitoes at this campground were the worst of the trip.
