Sprinty’s Got a Girlfriend

As readers of the blog might have noticed, Kris and Darrell have been quite enjoying all the activities at Riverside RV Resort, while Sprinty gets to spend the day hanging out in the RV Park waiting patiently for their return. At least most Kris and Darrell's typical RV adventures involve Sprinty as the primary mode of transportation, so Sprinty at least gets to tag along.

After almost two months, we got our heads together and started thinking about what next time might look like. We have often compared the activities we can do with the south Florida weather to our adventures last winter out west. While we made many amazing adventures out west, the weather was cooler than we expected, and impacted our ability to do outdoor things as often as we would have liked.

As we neared the end of our time at Riverside RV Resort, we started appreciating more and more the many new friends we met - through golf, through biking riding, through kayaking, wandering in the park, and participating in various activities like the Southern States party. We started thinking about ways we might do this again next year.

That got us to start thinking about a girlfriend for Sprinty that would have a bit more room for extended stays. What sets Riverside RV Resort apart for Kris and Darrell are how welcoming everyone is and the many activities to join in.

After shopping for suitable RVs to leave in south Florida, initially starting with a 27 foot travel trailer, we started looking at various options. Darrell combed the Internet for nearby possibilities that had all the must-haves. Our Deep Creek friends Tom and Heidi went through this same sort of decision making three years ago, and they settled on a new Vanleigh Vilano fifth wheel travel trailer. Kris and Darrell took a real liking to their Vilano, and it quickly became the standard by which we compared various options

After looking at several late-model fifth wheels, we picked a 2018 Heartland Landmark with the Charleston floor plan that we found in Fort Myers, FL. At 41 feet long, it has more room than two people need, but makes it a lot more comfortable to invite company over than is possible in Sprinty. The fifth wheel is only two years old and was well taken care of.

The plan is to keep it at Riverside RV Resort year-round. That offers several advantages including not having to buy a tow vehicle for it, being top priority for renewing our lease each year, and reduced wear and tear as we won't be towing it. Tom and Heidi have done this for two years with their 2018 Vanleigh Vilano fifth wheel and their experience with the arrangement is worthy of replicating. Tom and Heidi were invaluable in offering their lessons learned on buying a fifth wheel, features they considered important, and how the arrangement works for keeping it on the site year around.

Not to worry, Sprinty's place as an adventuring partner for Kris and Darrell remains secure. He has plans to take Kris and Darrell to Alaska this summer, to the Rockies next summer, and adventure along the Lewis and Clark Trail in 2022.
